Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers
The Leaving Care Team is responsible for the care and welfare of unaccompanied asylum seekers (aged 16+). Young people who have fled their own countries because of war or violence are usually traumatised, having experienced and/or witnessed all sorts of atrocities (including to members of their own family) and, by the time they reach us are often very distressed. They are easy prey for traffickers and others who wish to exploit them.
With the help of interpreters, we assess their situation so we can agree a programme of care and support to meet their needs and help them settle into our community. We also help these young people register asylum and access legal advice.
