Youth Offending Service

Reading's Youth Offending Service (YOS) aims to prevent offending, or re-offending, by children and young people.

We work with children and young people in a number of ways to help them understand the consequences of their behaviour. We assess each young person's risk of further offending, as well as establishing their needs, such as education, health, recreation or wellbeing. We try to address the causes of a young person’s behaviour either one-to-one or in a groupwork setting. Young people will often be asked to meet with their victims or undertake work in the community that can help repair the harm caused by their offending. The level of intervention each young person receives will depend on their level of risk; those assessed with the highest risk will be expected to do more during their time with us.

Reading YOS is a multi-agency service, funded by local partner agencies (Children’s Services, Police, Education, The Youth Engagement Service, Connexions and the Health Service) and central government.
