A ground breaking new heritage display called “Hidden Voices”, opened at Reading Museum on Tuesday 20 January 2015.

The community display was the result of a project led by the local charity Support U.  It reflected the life and times of Reading’s LGBT community, exploring the hidden voices and unique memorabilia showing how Reading people have been helping to make discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation a thing of the past.

The project, received the backing of the Heritage Lottery Fund, saw Support U, lead a programme of research and collect interviews with members of the community who remember a time when it was illegal to be gay. The resulting museum display presented key facts about Reading’s LGBT History and broaden understanding of LGBT issues as they impact on Reading today.
